Although he died young, he was very prolific. Besides his sword and sorcery, he wrote a considerable number of Westerns- but he was a Texan, so that shouldn't be a surprise.
As a fellow Texan, I appreciate his wild and rowdy spirit. I've read all of his Conan, Kull, and Kane stuff, and plenty of his boxing stories, but I haven't ventured into his westerns just yet. Someday soon, maybe.

I share a lot of your feelings about Howard. His ability to create word pictures like that was one of his unique strengths as a writer.
